It
has been a very hot day with some confusion. Once the folks that
needed to get registered were finished Billy and Robin spent most of the
next hour trying to find out where to meet for the Chapter E gathering
ride to Henry Horton State Park. Once that was nailed down we were
on our way. Everyone was staying in a good group despite the traffic
and being misdirected to the wrong exit. Once everyone in the group
made it to the correct exit, all plans stopped. The horror of
hearing the tail gunner call out "Bike Down" sent everyone to
the aid of the downed couple.
A
couple from CA1R were merging into traffic on the secondary road when the
rider lost control and, evidently, was high-sided off the bike. The
bike, with his co-rider continued, a few feet and impacted the Armco barrier.
With an off duty First Responder on site assisting Chapter E's own
Registered Nurse Laura Sue Fleming, the driver was in good hands but was
complaining about pain in his back but was able to move his limbs.
The paramedics and law enforcement were on the seen in just a few minutes
to care for the couple and clear the scene. The co-rider had a minor
abrasion on her hand but was otherwise in good health. Last news
what that the rider was going to be held overnight in the hospital for observation.
Everyone
who was there had to take note that both the rider and co-rider were
wearing a good quality helmet, gloves, Airtek riding jacket and sturdy
shoes. Even with the hot weather, it is better to be protected with
all the correct equipment.
After
enjoying the meal at the state park, everyone made their way back tot he
hotel to relax and rest up. Later in the evening, the gang gathered
to have supper at the Cock of the Walk and as expected, there was a lot of
laughing and fun going on. Tuesday will be another active day around
the convention but the evening will bring the attempt to break the world
record for the most number of Hondas in a parade as we travel downtown to
enjoy the fireworks show.
